Idea Napkin No.2

I am Jake Hopen. My talents are learning to cope with customer service, adapting new logistics, and being creative. My skills are being friendly and being a people person. I love to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Learning about these cultures is what inspires me to pursue what I plan on dealing with in the future. I want to be a college advisor and talk with different students and learn about different backgrounds – maybe deal with how they stand out. If I were to open up a business, I would see it as a mechanism of learning different attitudes and approaches to service.

The product I am offering is to enable airlines to add Wi-Fi to international and national flights or if it is already installed to not charge customers for Wi-Fi. Since flights are already expensive to begin with in the first place, I want to decrease all charges of this service. With this product, I am able to create a more entertaining flight experience, where people can communicate with each other from above. Business people can do projects, send emails, and WhatsApp or Snapchat Calls. Others can stream through social media or communicate with people for urgent needs.

The demographic and psychographic characteristic of my customers are young business people and teenagers. They usually use the Wi-Fi on airplanes to stream through the internet or make business calls. It would be a burden to also make their parents or themselves not include or pay for Wi-Fi on these flights. However, by creating my avatar, I have came to realize that it depends on the individual, not the whole teenage population. Depending on one's spending, this will show how if they really can afford the Wi-Fi or not.

This product does not require money involved, but I believe some people should have the power to tell airlines that this is not fair to charge people for Wi-Fi when airplanes are already expensive to begin with. Maybe, the money paid with the flights can be used to radiate more satellite signals in the air or a generator for only airplanes to use, just like cruises use. If that were a reason to overcharge money, then people will give in and have the free Wi-Fi they need to relax and enjoy the flight.

What sets me apart from everyone else is that my product does not involve money, rather it is just a campaign to eliminate money for Wi-Fi use on airplanes. I have a heart and I completely understand why people would not want to pay for Wi-Fi because it is such a burden, also airplanes are super long and there is no other way to entertain yourself, if most people are sleeping or are bored.

I believe these elements are out of joint with others because this cause has stopped people from liking airplanes or even taking a car instead. With many technological advances right now, I believe there is a way that can get airplanes to connect to nearby satellites or install a generator that only airplanes can use. I believe most people want to sell their product, rather than campaign it. I think the world now revolves around being successful and competition. Sometimes you have to stop and look at others to see where they are coming from and how they are doing financially. Some people are not as lucky as others and cannot afford to pay for flights anymore.

Feedback Memo: I was told to talk more about myself and why I chose free Wi-Fi as this cause. Also, I added that the Avatar assignment really helped me focus on the individual and not just, for example, the teenage or business population. I did not include aspects of my characteristics if I were to open up a business. Lastly, this feedback helped me think not just about what I feel, but if I were to be put in those shoes, what I would sense people faced daily about the product.

  1. Hey there Jake. First off I would like to say great job on this post. It seems that you took the feedback form the first assignment and made this one even better. I love the idea of having free wifi on planes. Ive had to pay for wifi or just have really bad wifi on planes too many times and it is just the worst. I really hope this idea is successful.

  2. Hey, I love the idea of having complimentary wifi on airplanes, it would make my life so much easier and would help pass the time so much faster. The Avatar assignment really helped me to visualize the potential customer base. I think that its important to put yourself into the shoes of the customer. Having a good visual of who that customer is can really help you to do that and it helps you to better serve them.

  3. It seems like you really listened to the feedback that you got on the first assignment. Great job incorporating that into this assignment and really making it your own. Your skills seem very different than my own--I'm not really a natural people person. We are most likely taking very different approaches to our businesses, but good luck with your idea!
