Entrepreneur Story
My father is an entrepreneur: he taught me to sell high and buy low and to over deliver. The concept of over delivery is that as an entrepreneur you give them more than they expect. He took me to his office one day and drove me to hotels to show me first hand how the spirit of an entrepreneurship work. He showed me how to keep his clients happy by over delivering whatever the client asks for. He promised one of the clients that they would get 10% profit, but they ended up getting 15% of the profit because of his dedication to his clients. My dad believes in customer service and wants to make the client happy. Also, we gave out Godiva Chocolate to my father’s clients. From the chocolate, we learned that people are always happy to get chocolate and refer to other people to buy property and invest in hotels.
I enrolled in ENT3003 because I am in the Innovation Academy and I want to fulfill my minor requirement, also since my father is an entrepreneur I hope to learn the concepts to be a successful entrepreneur like him. I hope to get a great understanding of the business world around me and how business works. I hope that I can learn the concept of investment and customer service just like my father was taught.

First off, love the picture choice. What a great movie. Its awesome what your dad did to show his clients that he cared about them and giving them a higher percentage than was promised. Its a great way to keep your customers happy and wanting to use your business again. I enrolled in the class to fulfill a requirement as well.
ReplyDeleteYou and I seem to come from similar backgrounds. My father was also an entrepreneur and I too got to spend a lot of time talking and going to work with him. He has that same spirit of making sure that the customer is happy so that he can retain their business. He isn't a greedy person or one that is hellbent on making tons of money, so he wanted to build his reputation as an honest businessman who treats his clients well and with respect. Your dad sounds like a pretty smart man!
ReplyDeleteHey Josh! Great story. My father is also an entrepreneur and it definitely has steered my career choice as well. It sounds like your father has shown you great real life experiences in the business world. I can see why the Godiva chocolate technique is so successful. I am a very big fan of chocolate and would definitly recommend a company to my friends if they gave me a gift of Godiva.
ReplyDeleteHi Jake, it sounds like we come from pretty similar backgrounds. My dad is a self-employed IT Consultant, and he actually works from our house, so I got an up-close view of what working for yourself looks like from a young age. Also, those two rules can be applied to lots of life, and they will also do well by you. What exactly is it that your dad does with hotels? Sounds like he knows what he's doing.
ReplyDeleteHey Jake, love the way your blog is looking so far and I'm a fan of the meme as the other commenters are too. Your dad sounds like a really cool dude and the type of entrepreneur that genuinely cares about people and isn't just trying to make money off of them. The use of chocolate is a genius idea, because I myself am addicted to chocolate and would be highly vulnerable to this tactic. I've learned so much from my dad too, so I totally understand why he was the topic for your story. Great post.
