From the UF Website: "The Innovation Academy (IA) at UF is a groundbreaking living/ learning community that pulls unique students from more than 30 majors into a spring-summer cohort filled with energy, collisions that become ideas, and one common minor: Innovation."
First Interview, Kortney Brown: Price definitely matters to her, she would love to have access to Wi-Fi on an airplane, but if it is pricey, she will have second guesses on whether it is worth it and if it is in her price range. The quality of the Wi-Fi matters to her, especially if she is paying for it. She told me that, if she pays X amount of dollars, she expects the quality to be up to par. If it was free, she would expect the quality to be mediocre, because she assumes many people would be using the Wi-Fi and it could slow down. When enabling the Wi-Fi, she thinks there are a couple of factors to take into consideration, like the quality of the Wi-Fi, ease of access, and limits to the access. Kortney told me that it would be a good idea to campaign this to airlines who do not enable Wi-Fi because if they choose to enable free Wi-Fi, it could bring them more customers. She said that if people know that an airline provides free Wi-Fi, then they might be more inclined to choose that specific airline.
Second Interview, Carolina Matute: Planes should enable free Wi-Fi and more accessibility, she says. The price of Wi-Fi can be included with the plane ticket. She says that many people use technology and this can lead to many benefits especially for individuals that work in a career path where technology and internet connection is crucial. Also, the style wouldn't matter but the quality needs to be good because people want a strong Wi-Fi connection on board. She is sure a large poll can influence an Airline's decision on allowing Wi-Fi on their planes. She said that an airline's decision on Wi-Fi can be factored to favor people that cannot afford this cost.
Third Interview, Carly Patterson: Price is always a factor in decision making. She said that everything has a price, whether it be for best or mediocre quality. Quality is quality, it's a luxury. She told me that it is the same for style. Free Wi-Fi or any wifi at all is great advertising for any airline to separate themselves from their competition. She said it would be a smart idea to campaign this idea to airlines who aren't doing this because they can see what they're missing out on to gain more clients or to create a better relationship with already existing clients.
My segment is more likely to buy online because Wi-Fi is bought online via credit card when you make your transaction purchase. However, my product does not need to be bought, but it does need to be campaigned to airline companies.
What matters the most when they think back on the 'rightness' of the purchase is that it is secure and able to work. If the money that is used to buy the Wi-Fi does not work, then what is the point of buying the Wi-Fi. Also, people want a Wi-Fi that is secure and does not get hacked. It helps them determine if the purchase is a good idea if the Wi-Fi is being used for a right reason. With an eight hour flight, Wi-Fi is the best entertainment for someone to use by utilizing it for emergencies and using it to surf the internet. It makes it a bad idea if the Wi-Fi is not secure and if it is cost effective.
In terms of an alternative evaluation, they would campaign the product and tell them how useful it would be to utilize Wi-Fi on board and/ or to not charge them for Wi-Fi because of bills and other costs that have to be paid. Based on purchase decision, the people interviewed would pay the Wi-Fi on board if it was secure and fast. Based on the people I interviewed, I thought they would have all said it is too much, since they are college students and they have to worry about student loans. During their post purchase decision, most of them would not regret it, as it is a fun way to surf the internet wherever one is. Also, some of them have told me that it is hard for them to sleep on airplanes, so that would be their way of passing time.
You did a good job at presenting your interviews and providing context to the backgrounds of the interviewees (IA students). You did a really good job of keeping each interview similar so that we can see how different people think about the same things. I think you attained exactly what you needed to from your interviews and it looks like this has helped you in further developing your idea!
